César Cañedo-Argüelles
CEO
César Cañedo-Argüelles is the Chief Executive Officer of CIFI and a founding member of the institution. With more than three decades of experience in infrastructure, investment banking, and emerging markets, César has been central to shaping CIFI’s mission since its creation. After 14 years as Managing Director of Structured and Corporate Finance, he was appointed CEO in 2015, reaffirming his long-standing commitment to driving sustainable infrastructure development across Latin America and the Caribbean.
Under his leadership, CIFI has consolidated its role as a pioneer in sustainable finance, achieving several landmark milestones in the region. The company became the first entity to issue green bonds in Colombia and Panama, demonstrating its vision to mobilize capital toward climate-aligned projects. CIFI also expanded its strategic capabilities by launching its Asset Management platform, creating new avenues to channel investment into critical infrastructure and the region.
Most notably, César has guided CIFI in breaking new ground with the first regional debt fund for sustainable infrastructure in Latin America, the Sustainable Infrastructure Debt Fund, and the first infrastructure debt fund in the Dominican Republic, setting benchmarks for financial innovation in the region. These accomplishments reflect not only his commitment as a founding member but also his dedication to positioning CIFI as a leader in advancing sustainable, impactful infrastructure for the communities it serves.
